The Complete Guide to Choosing a Wedding Saree
Choose a wedding saree from the ceremony first: the time of day, whether you are the bride or a guest, and any colour the family has asked for. Fabric and embroidery should support that plan, not replace it.

Bridal saree and guest saree are different jobs
A bridal saree is often worn for longer, photographed more closely, and paired with heavier jewellery. A guest saree should look festive without copying the bride’s palette or weight. Ask which function you are dressing for before you compare borders.
Fabric and embroidery
- Silk and silk blends hold dense borders and formal pleats.
- Georgette is easier for a reception if you will dance or travel.
- Look at the reverse of embroidery. A woven motif has structure on the back; a print does not.
- Heavy zari adds weight on one shoulder. Try a similar weight before the wedding week.
Colour, blouse and photographs
Deep reds, maroons, jewel greens and tempered golds stay readable in mixed light. Very pale shades can wash out in daylight flash. If a family colour is specified, follow it. The colour guide is for functions that leave the shade open. For a Banarasi, use the styling guide after the saree is chosen.

A wedding buying sequence
- Confirm the function, venue and any required colour.
- Choose a fabric you can wear for that length of time.
- Check the blouse piece, or budget a separate blouse.
- Leave time for a trial drape, fall and pico if you need them.
- Read the product page for the current price, colour and stock.
How early should a wedding saree be ordered?
Leave time for the blouse and one trial drape. A gift saree, or one that needs fall and pico, needs more time than a saree with a ready blouse piece.
Can guests wear the same colour as the bride?
Avoid matching the bridal saree closely unless the family has asked for a colour. A related but quieter shade is usually safer.
